Excerpt from ASHE HFM magazine Nov/Dec 2023 on Chemical injection vs filtration for water quality
QUESTION: Does anyone have thoughts on using a chemical injection process to reduce bacteria within a water system? I recommend reviewing the new ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 514, Risk Management for Building Water Systems. It addresses several hazards, including chemical, with regard to bacteria reduction methods. Treating facility water with chemistry has many benefits, but it also has limitations (e.g., dead legs) and can even introduce new risks. Page 19 of ANSI/ASHRAE 514 goes into depth about those risks. Class II filtration for infection control is another effective and reliable solution for bacteria reduction and also complies with the new guidance. HFM
