Congratulations on Your Retirement, Mick!
Yes, after 37 years in healthcare, Mick Enright, Operations Manager for Engineering Facilities Services at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw, plans on retiring on February 2, 2024.
When asked to share his thoughts about retirement Mick writes:
I have enjoyed a great career and many good times with the people of MiSHE!
I plan on spending time between our place in Lewiston, here in Saginaw, and with family in the U.P...and learning what retirement is all about.
I worked as a steam locomotive fireman and mechanic on a tourist railroad after high school. (I met my Wife while working there, but that's another long story!)
I moved to Saginaw in 1983 and worked in hospitality maintenance...the stuff you encounter when working in a hotel! I went to St. Luke's Hospital in 1986 as an HVAC Mechanic and moved into Facilities Management with the merger of St. Luke's and Saginaw General Hospital into Covenant Healthcare in 1998. While we don't provide direct patient care in Healthcare Facilities Maintenance, we serve the people who do. And if our work--even indirectly--helps provide positive outcomes for patients, that is a great accomplishment!
I've been involved with MiSHE for over 20 years met some extraordinary people and developed treasured collegial relationships with professional and associate members. The technical knowledge, problem-solving, and regulatory insight (and dare I say, influence) that MiSHE continues to provide are priceless. But to me, the most valuable aspect of MiSHE is the networking, comradery, and peer support that makes us all better healthcare leaders.
If I have any advice for new Facility Managers I would, of course, recommend joining MiSHE and reaching out---there are Healthcare Facility Managers everywhere who are facing the same challenges you are. And while our focus is on the technical, mechanical, and electrical aspects of healthcare--the 'bricks-and-mortar'--never lose sight of the fact that your organization's duty is to take care of patients...and you DO have a part in that. As I like to tell my guys; You don't have to do it...you get to do it!
