Biography:

Randall “Randy” Snelling is the Chief Physical Environment Officer at DNV Healthcare, Inc. He is responsible for oversight of DNV Healthcare Physical Environment Specialists and survey activities. Randy’s responsibilities include ensuring surveyor staff maintain competency in areas of the physical environment, LSC, NFPA and related codes and regulations. Randy manages all inquiries regarding the physical environment aspects and standard requirements. He has had an integral role for the development of the NIAHO Accreditation Program under deeming authority from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and is responsible for Physical Environment standards, interpretive guidelines, and comprehensive survey process.

Randy has more than twenty five years of experience in various roles related to environmental, safety, equipment, and utilities management. He retired from the utility industry as a master electrician but also has a background as a millwright, machinist, and welder. He founded a consulting firm, Workplace Solutions, to consult with healthcare and other industry settings for improvement of safety practices.

Randy’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education from the University of Louisville, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, and numerous certifications in the maintenance and building industries.



Presentation Title: Accreditation Surveys: Common Observations

Synopsis:

There is no question that codes and standards require hospitals to attain a certain regimen. The DNV surveyor assists with how these codes and standards are integrated into a larger process of guaranteeing patient, staff and visitor safety throughout the hospital organization. This presentation will focus on the survey processes and related codes and standards that the DNV surveyors are currently finding to be the greatest challenges to hospital organizations.
