Biography:

James D. Scott, P.E., has been the manager of the Health Facilities Engineering Section since November 2000. Prior to his appointment as manager, Jim was a member of the section staff for over 16 years. During that time, Jim served as the primary section staff representative on the committee, which developed the Minimum Design Standards for Health Care Facilities in Michigan. He is a member of the planning committee for the Health Facilities Planning Seminar and is an active participant with the Michigan Society for Infection Control. Jim currently represents the State of Michigan on the Health Guidelines Revision Committee, which is working on the 2010 edition of the Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospital and Health Care Facilities.

Jim received his B.S. in Civil Engineering and his M.S. in Sanitary Engineering (now known as Environmental Engineering) from Michigan State University. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.

 

Synopsis:

Main Session:  Health Facilities Update

This presentation will update the attendees on issues within the Health Facilities Engineering Section and the State of Michigan, and discuss the impact on Health Care Facilities.  Information will be provided on the results of the new initiative to perform baseline surveys at nursing care facilities throughout the state.  The status of efforts to adopt the 2007 Minimum Design Standards in Michigan as well as the ongoing development of the 2010 Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities on a national level will be discussed. The presentation will also address issues which continue to come up in Hospital baseline surveys, and in construction project plan reviews and opening surveys.
