We Invite You to Qualify as a Certified Healthcare Mechanic!

What is MECH?

MECH is a nationally recognized program that provides certification for healthcare mechanics. MECH was built by healthcare mechanics for healthcare mechanics and is currently being used in several states. The thrust of the MECH certification program is to recognize years of experience and knowledge accumulated by many professional maintenance mechanics working in the healthcare industry.  Within every institution there are maintenance teams comprised of people who are very knowledgeable and have years of work experience to their credit.  It is precisely these people who look for and deserve recognition.  MECH recognizes three levels of knowledge and work experience.

The first level is for beginning health-care mechanics.  Through a process we call a "Structured Interview" MECH provides a basic written assessment, job descriptions, sample interview questions, and more. The Structured Interview process systematically evaluates a candidate using a rubric to determine the best person for the job. A matrix scoring process identifies the qualification level of each candidate to provide a qualified list and provides comprehensive documentation in the event of a hiring dispute.

The second level of recognition, “Certified” Healthcare Mechanic, occurs after the mechanic has worked two or more years as a mechanic within the healthcare environment.  A letter from his/her supervisor certifying the amount of experience for the healthcare mechanic sanctions him/her to take the test. This letter or affidavit of experience attests to the candidate’s performance on the job. Passing the test at the minimum cut score, qualifies the mechanic for "Certified" Healthcare Mechanic status.

The third level is “Senior Certified” Healthcare Mechanic. This level of recognition requires a letter from his/her supervisor attesting to a total of four or more years of work experience as a healthcare mechanic.  It also requires the mechanic to take and pass the test at a higher cut score level than the "Certified" Healthcare Mechanic.
