Upper Peninsula Chapter Meeting Minutes

Members present: Glenn Patrick, Harry Knapp, Mike Supanich, Virgil Polorski, Jacob Guter.

Guests present: John Hohman, MiSHE Executive Director and Sandra Hohman, MiSHE.

The meeting was called to order at approximately 11:00 a.m. by Glenn Patrick, UPSHE President.

John Hohman, Executive Director of MiSHE, gave a presentation about MiSHE. The details of the presentation included a review of MiSHE history, the MiSHE mission statement and goals, a tour of the MiSHE web, 2008 Conference details and a tour of the UPSHE web. UP Chapter membership issues were discussed. Membership issues included: increasing participation, increasing dues to $50 and the general demographics of members in UPSHE. Conference details included information and descriptions of the conference agenda and programs of interest to the UPSHE membership. The Conference information can be viewed at www.mishe.org and click on “Annual Conference”.

UPSHE Bylaws: The UPSHE bylaws are up for revision. The bylaws, with proposed changes, will be posted to the UPSHE page of the MiSHE web site so that the UPSHE membership may review them before voting on ratification.

Chapter volunteers will call other UPSHE members to encourage their participation in the bylaws ratification process and encourage their participation in future chapter meetings and events. Events of special interest include the MiSHE Conference being held September 23-26 at the Kewadin Conference Center, Sault Ste. Marie. The next UPSHE Chapter meeting will be held at the Annual Conference during time alloted for regional chapter meetings. Pre-Conference programs, CHFM and MECH workshops, were discussed as well as membership activities and seminar sessions that are of importance to facility managers.

Other items discussed included information about Upper Peninsula area companies that are frequently used as vendors. Names of these companies will be included in announcement about the conference to encourage participation. Members of UPSHE that have retired, moved to new work locations or have left healthcare facilities management were discussed. It was noted that Brent Young has retired from Marquette General and has been nominated as a Life Member of UPSHE/MiSHE. This information will be used to update the UPSHE membership database. There was a discussion as to the reasons why there was low attendance at this UPSHE meeting.

Lunch was provided by Marquette General Hospital.

The next UPSHE Chapter meeting will be Thursday, September 25th from 5:10 to 6 pm in the Whitefish Point room of the Kewadin Conference Center, Sault Ste. Marie.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 2:30 pm.
