GENERAL SUMMARY: Directs and coordinates departmental operations which
include maintaining the Medical Center's interior facilities in a
clean, sanitary, orderly, safe, and attractive condition. Develops and
recommends departmental policies, procedures, and budgets. Participates
in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities.
Ensures compliance with all appropriate safety and infection control
standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous
and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of
Behavior and Management Code of Conduct.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Administrator/
Support Service, who reviews work through conferences and reports.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Exercises full supervision over employees engaged in the
cleaning operations at Hurley Medical Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

In consultation with superiors and own staff, develops short
and long term goals for the Building Services department.

Develops departmental plans to accomplish agreed-upon goals;
and develops, secures approval of, and administers a departmental
budget which provides for the attainment of agreed-upon goals in
accordance with approved plans.

Oversees and is responsible for the hiring, training,
development, disciplining, and evaluation of subordinate personnel.
Provides guidance and advice to subordinate managerial and supervisory
personnel in these matters.

Establishes departmental policies, standards, and procedures
for the Building Services staff in accordance with established policies
of the Medical Center in order to maintain a hygienic environment for
patients and staff.

Establishes performance standards work procedures for the
Building Services staff in accordance with established policies of the
Medical Center in order to maintain a hygienic environment for patients
and staff.

Determines standards of cleanliness and establishes direct
frequencies of cleaning and maintenance operations necessary to ensure
acceptable hygienic and aesthetic conditions. Establishes and maintains
methods of evaluating cleaning effectiveness and quality control.

Plans, organizes, directs and controls the overall custodial,
cleaning, and sanitation operation to ensure a safe, pleasant and
functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Periodically meets with other Medical Center managerial
personnel to coordinate Building Services activities and to resolve any
interdepartmental problems involving the department; provides resource
assistance to all Medical Center departments and outside agencies with
regard to sanitation, disinfection, cleaning management, and related
services.

Ensures institutional compliance with various regulatory and
accrediting agency standards with regard to environmental sanitation
and safety.

Administers pest control, solid waste, preventive
maintenance, and specialized cleaning programs.

Responsible for obtaining and controlling the department's
supplies and equipment inventories; investigates and evaluates new
items to improve efficiency and effectiveness; meets with sales
representative to consider purchases of supplies and equipment.

Directs the preparation of departmental records as well as
special reports and analysis reviews and interprets these in order to
ascertain the extent to which departmental goals are being achieved.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
-
Baccalaureate degree in a business or related management
discipline.

Five (5) years of progressive housekeeping and/or
environmental services management experience, three (3) years of which
must have been in a health care facility.

Considerable knowledge of housekeeping cleaning methods,
materials, and equipment.

Ability to prepare staffing/scheduling reports, and annual
budgets.

Ability to plan, lay out, and manage personnel involved in
housekeeping functions and activities.
-
Ability to conduct research to improve housekeeping
techniques.
-
Ability to keep records and make reports.
-
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral
formats.
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with department heads, supervisors, and other Medical
Center personnel.
NECESSARY SPECIAL CERTIFICATION:
Certified Executive Housekeeper
(C.H.E.) status preferred.
