Steve brought "Sparky Dog" stuffed animals, which have arrived only now from a campaign from three years ago. It was agreed to donate the stuffed toys to the burn unit at Hurley Medical Center.

Pat Humphrey brought it to our attention that fireproof glues are no longer required in laminates if the laminate materials are fireproof, per the Office of Fire Safety.

Steve Jablonski reported that due to more strict rules from EPA most facilities are electing to phase out the use of any medical waste incinerators, including Henry Ford Hospital who will shut down within two years despite $2 million already spent on updates to the system. Mercury disposal is one of the largest factors. Environmental groups have the backing of doctor and nursing associations.

Dick Gudkese added that MHA had no problem until the Alpena hazardous waste situation. New stance is zero mercury production and to endorse the DEQ incinerator regulation. Michigan is the top producer of medical waste.
